Another moral difference which emerges is that the utilitarians believe life is valuable only when it possesses an acceptable balance of happiness over unhappiness, while the Kantian believes that life is valuable no matter what its quality.

Kantians would disagree, because lying always involves a conscious intent to deceive, to use others as a means to ends without their consent. Kantians hold that lying in any circumstances is wrong. Moral rules like ‘telling the truth’ and ‘no lying’ are universal and apply equally to all moral agents in all circumstances. The Kantians are universalists who hold that moral rules apply equally to everyone, while the utilitarians are particularists who hold that the rightness or wrongness of an act depends upon the circumstances.
