But this is highly unlikely given the clear congruity between Sun Tzu and the Four Schools. â•… On balance it is likely that the first edition of The Art of War influenced the Four Schools. While there is no clear evidence that Cao Cao (曹操 AD 155–220)—the first commentator on The Art of War and a renowned strategist—reedited The Art of War on the basis of the Four Schools, it also seems likely that the Four Schools will have exerted at least some influence over the subsequent editing of The Art of War into its current edition.

Tai Gong was the first ruler of Qi and he also exerted a significant influence over ancient China’s military and strategic thought. 6 This is confirmed in The Record of the Grand Historian (Shi Ji/Shih Chi 史記), which details Tai Gong’s role in formulating and implementing political, military, and diplomatic strategy in Zhou (周 1046–256 BC, the state which Tai Gong served). 1600–1045 BC), which served as a model that was subsequently emulated by later Chinese strategists.
