The college of Colorado and the nationwide Bureau of criteria have once more served as hosts for the Cryogenic Engineering convention in Boulder, Colorado. In proposing the papers of this 12th annual assembly, the 1966 Cryogenic Engineering convention Committee has back well-known the wonderful cooperation which has existed among those firms during the last decade in regards to either cryogenic study and convention task. This cooperation used to be validated not just on the 1966 Cryogenic Engineering convention but in addition on the foreign Institute of Refrigeration, fee I assembly, which was once additionally hosted through those firms instantly following the Cryogenic Engineering convention. those conferences have supplied attendees with essentially the most finished coverages of cryogenic themes that has ever been provided at one position. Emphasis on significant overseas advances in helium know-how on the overseas Institute of Refrigeration, fee I assembly has been attainable principally during the nationwide technological know-how origin supply GK 1116 to the collage of Colorado. The Cryogenic Engineering convention Committee gratefully recognizes this aid as a result of its helpful foreign contribution to the Cryogenic Engineering convention. As some time past, the Cryogenic Engineering convention Committee is thankful for the ongoing suggestions of the entire devoted employees within the cryogenic box who've contributed their time reviewing the initial papers for this system and the ultimate manuscripts for this volume.

CONCLUSIONS The choice among the three LNG ship tank concepts will be made according to several factors, all interrelated. Undoubtedly, tank cost will be one of the major factors but its importance will depend upon the size of the ships, the cost of the gas and its delivered selling price, and any patents and royalties which may be involved. The choice of tank design may also be influenced by regulatory changes resulting from operating experience with present LNG tankers. For example, it would seem reasonable to expect a change in the simultaneous requirements for both an outer tank inspection and a secondary barrier if the tanks can be inspected from the insulation side as well as from the cargo side; a satisfactory experience with free-standing tanks may make secondary barriers superfluous.

Schematic of externally powered open-looped Hampson cycle. 34 'R -116 BTU/LS SAT. lIQ. 1 LB/HII HYDROGEN TANK The simplest self-powered cycle is shown in Fig. 6. Part of the boil-off is first heated to a higher temperature by external heat addition and is then expanded to a lower temperature and pressure. An expander exit pressure equal to the triple point pressure of parahydrogen is employed in order to avoid expanding into the solid-vapor region. The remainder of the boil-off is compressed to a higher temperature and pressure and then cooled to saturated liquid by counterflow heat exchange with the low pressure boil-off stream, which is then expelled overboard.
